Do you live in one of these “Home Rule” Cities?
If not, your property value may decrease significantly in the coming years.
It is difficult to find accurate city classifications, but try here or here. Home Rule cities have zoning authority.
A webpage on Eastwood’s website lists reasons to be a Home Rule City.
Some background on this topic is on Fastzone’s Substack blog here and here. Fastzone’s reporter attended an area Zoning Change meeting and discovered that small cities no longer have zoning authority. Previously, homes zoned for single family residential were not permitted to rent space to non-family members, nor rent their home for more than a specified length of time. How has it happened that now, we homeowners (across the city) are subject to the affordable housing rules of Louisville Metro? The simple answer is that our property rights have been diminished over a long period of time, and what is happening now has been planned for decades.
At the area meeting a concern for safety and security was expressed. We are seeing more people wearing hoodies and masks on our streets. Some show drug use symptoms. It was noted that churches will become centers for homeless (now termed “houseless”) people.
When asked how we can find out who our new neighbors are if they speak no English, Joel Dock, Louisville Metro Planning Supervisor, said, “You won’t like this answer, but you are not allowed to know.” As a welcoming city, the status of our immigrants is private, according to a Metro Council Ordinance.
Our property taxes have skyrocketed. Citizens must speak out to hold the line. A related article on Fastzone is here.
